Cape Town has so many awesome things to do with kids. What really is the best part about all these awesome, super exciting things to do with kids in Cape Town is most of them are for free(For the kids that is, no only joking I will try and list a few free ones here to). If you are only visiting Cape Town, or it is your home town we are sure you will enjoy every minute.
First on the list we would say Intaka Island which is in Century City. Dads and Moms this is a destination that you will want to take your camera along with as this is a bird sanctuary. Intaka Island is only about 8km from Cape Town. The Kids will love it here as there is around 2km of foot paths to explore. Or you can take a ferry ride along the little river around the Island. The entry fee is around R12,50 for adults and R7,50 for children if under the age of 12. Hours of opperation are from 7:30am – 5:30 during winter which will be May to Septemeber and open from 7:30am – 7 Pm in summer.
Strawberry Farm (Strawberry picking)
Is it November yet? If yes then the strawberry picking is available. The season for picking strawberries is normally when the warm weather starts to kick in after the short winter period that happens in South Africa. The best place for strawberry picking in Cape Town would have to be on a farm called Mooiberg Farm. This farm can be found on the R44 road which is between Somerset West and Stellenbosch. Picking strawberries is great fun with kids or friends. When you arrive at Mooiberg Strawberry Farm you will be given a basket for the strawberries. When you are done picking you get charged per kilogram of what you have picked.
Route 44 Market
Once you have finished picking strawberries with the kids you would have noticed some big marque tents on the other side of the road. That is Route 44! It will be a good idea to head over there with the kids as there is a play area there too. But you would like to head over there more for the fact that there is cold beer, good red & white wine, clothing stalls and food. While you are sitting outside in the shade as I am sure the sun will be cooking. You can listen to the live music/band they normally have at the venue. Entrance to Route 44 is free. The food is amazing and for an extra tip try and draw cash/money before you get there as there is only one ATM as far as I can recall. Route 44 is open every Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 16:00pm. They also say rain or shine they will be open.
This place is a must go to place with your kids. Even you as a parent will have lots to learn here. Butterfly World is a park filled with free flying exotic butterflies. You will be walking in and amongst these butterflies as you will be in a free flying park. The opening times are from 9am – 17:00pm Monday to Sunday. They are open on all public holidays expect for 25 December. Entrance for Adults is R58 Children is R33, Student is R53, Pensioner R53 and Family (2 Adults & 2 Children) is R149.
